The lower part of the circle is darkness, sickness, and death. Bear claws signify strength and medicine for healing.
The circle is a halo or crown; one of knowledge, light, life, healing and health. The lamp on the bird's chest signifies our connection to the history of nursing.
The heart being the source of energy, life; it is where the spirit dwells. The flame in the lamp stands for hope, inspiration, learning, and illumination."
